Why do we need more energy?

The US Energy Information Administration projects that the region’s growing population—more than 1.5 million new residents moved into New York and New Jersey between the 1990 and 2000 censuses—will need an additional 30% more energy by 2030
than in 2006.

The new energy demand must be met by a reliable and cost effective new supply. In the densely populated greater New York and New Jersey area, new energy resources must meet the highest standards for safety, the environment and security. Liberty Natural Gas will meet all these requirements.

Some of the increased supply may include renewables such as wind and solar, and conservation measures may slow growth in demand. Liberty Natural Gas can complement these efforts.

Why Natural Gas?
The right answer, right now: clean natural gas

No energy source today offers a perfect solution to energy needs, but natural gas has significant clean advantages over other options.

Compare natural gas with:

Oil and coal: Natural gas is a clean burning fuel, for lower environmental impact. And natural gas is available from a wide range of sources, which can keep prices lower, and minimize dependency on oil imports.

Wind and solar: Even a modest renewable energy facility requires significant land use. To meet the additional projected energy needs of the region would require covering many thousands of acres with solar panels or tall wind tower farms.

Nuclear: Natural gas avoids production of radioactive waste and the danger of nuclear terrorism or contamination of water supply

What is a submerged turret buoy system?

Here's a photo of a submerged turret buoy system from the shoreline. Notice anything? That's right, you don't see anything! 15 miles off the nearest shore, a high-tech, submerged delivery system will safely re-gasify LNG delivered by double hulled LNG carriers. Our proven technology uses a buoy connection, which resides under 80 feet or more of water when not in use. The benefits: minimal footprint, exceptional safety, no need for docking or storage facilities, an invisible presence on the horizon.

Liberty's offshore conversion and delivery system offers exceptional benefits compared to other natural gas proposals for the greater New Jersey/New York area.

Is LNG safe and environmentally friendly?

A safe natural gas source using proven technology already in use in the U.S.

The safe technology proposed for the Liberty Natural Gas System is already successfully in use outside Boston, in the Gulf of Mexico, and around the world. Liberty’s offshore conversion and delivery system offers exceptional benefits compared to other natural gas proposals for the greater New Jersey/ New York area:

• Invisible
There is no island, platform or tower to obstruct the horizon or interrupt shipping.

• Safe
Located in deep water, the turret buoys are submerged, safe from turbulent weather, ship
impact and other hazards.

• Efficient
Moves up to 2.4 billion cubic feet per day to established facilities onshore.

• Environmentally responsible
Liberty is planned with care for the environment. Without the construction of major port or
storage facilities, in deep water, and with a shoreline-subsurface pipeline, Liberty offers
minimal environmental impact.

Government statistics show that natural gas pipelines are by far the safest energy transportation mode. The Liberty pipeline will be built with enormous care for safety, using multiple levels of redundancy in the safety systems.

How soon will New Jerseyans benefit from Liberty?

The Liberty Natural Gas System can be fully operational by late 2011. It will be tied into existing distribution systems, so no new onshore facilities will be necessary.
